Weapons Training
Classes in Tomiki Aikido
Our Weapons Training Classes provide a gentle yet effective approach to enhancing your Aikido practice through the use of traditional weapons: the bokken (wooden sword), jo (staff), and tanto (knife). These classes are particularly well-suited for participants aged 55 and older, focusing on improving balance, coordination, and strength in a supportive environment. Bokken: The bokken is a wooden sword that allows practitioners to learn the fundamental techniques of swordsmanship while developing body awareness and control. Its use helps foster a deeper understanding of distance and movement without the risks associated with metal swords. Jo: The jo is a long wooden staff that enhances reach and versatility in techniques. Training with the jo emphasizes fluidity of motion and effective use of leverage, which can greatly improve stability and balance. Tanto: The tanto is a wooden knife, used to teach principles of distance and defense. Practicing with the tanto helps sharpen reflexes and enhance defensive strategies in a safe manner. Our gentle training approach encourages mindfulness, allowing participants to gradually build skills at their own pace. Join us to experience the many benefits of weapons training, enhance your balance, and continue your Aikido journey in a nurturing and enjoyable setting!
